Annual Mural projects
The Butternut Area Historical Museum is primarily funded through private donations. Half its funding comes from visitor donations, Friends of the Museum memberships, and two annual fundraising events. The other half comes from an ongoing mural project organized by local muralist, Kelly Meredith.
The project is entitled Every Life Tells a Story and currently features over 40 men and women who built the Butternut Community. The work consists of larger-than-life depictions of area residents accompanied by hand written narratives of their lives as a background. Individuals may sponsor a current or former Butternut area citizen they felt made a significant difference in the area. Meredith donates her labor for the piece, so sponsorship fees go directly to the support of the museum. Submissions for 2022 will be installed on the west facing side of the Post Office Mural. Updated cost for submission is $350. See application form below for details.
In addition to portrait sales, the project also features a border of plaques which also honor area residents by listing their names and claims to fame. There are still hundreds of plaque spaces available for purchase. Again, all proceeds go directly to the support of the museum. The updated price for plaques is now $60. See application form below for details.
